LYDIA JAMES

Lydia James is a recent award winning Kingston 2022 graduate, specializing in Womenswear, with a particular interest in both Denim design and Knitwear. A focus on Silhouette, fabric and garment detailing within her design work to produce innovative a thoughtful, new designs with a focus on research and muse to form the basis of her graduate collection.

After completing an industrial placement year, I was offered the opportunity to work within the industry alongside completing my degree and collection. I have gained invaluable experience and knowledge through working within a high-end fashion brand whilst simultaneously meeting deadlines for university and work, praised for my organisation and work ethic. My graduate collection allowed me to explore my own position within the landscape of fashion and further my skill set in both design and construction producing 8 looks reflecting my love of Denim and Knitwear, an ode to my teenage years.

Upon completing my BA Collection, I was awarded the ‘Best Womenswear 2022’ award at the Kingston BA press show, sponsored by The White Company. Additionally, throughout my studies I was awarded the Tommy Hilfiger Kingston award and the Old Navy Design award, upon completion of live industry projects/competitions during my second year of studies. I am currently shortlisted for the Arts thread graduate global award in collaboration with Gucci.

I have gained over two years’ experience within the Fashion Industry at a high level and am currently working as Studio Design assistant at Mother of Pearl.
